Children's Residential Homes

Teen-bedroom-1024x683

We provide therapeutic residential children’s homes and support for children in care with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) from a range of trauma-based circumstances, aged 12 to 16 years. In our homes, children can feel safe, secure and valued.

Our focus is on enhancing the lives of the children we care for, harnessing the unique skills of our dedicated staff members to bring about the best possible outcomes in our young people. We offer our children a quality of life that is as close to a loving family environment as possible - an environment that provides stability, consistency, and acceptance for all. It is important to us that our young people have all that they need to successfully transition into adulthood; and our vision of this success is the driving force for our homes.

therapeutic Care

At Harbour Point Care children’s homes, we care for children who have suffered extensive trauma and attachment disruption all through their young lives and have missed out on safe, consistent and nurturing relationships to guide them through the developmental phases of life.

Children who have encountered such severe traumatic experiences often present as emotionally fragmented, fearful, anxious, sad and angry. These feelings tend to manifest as suspicion in relationships and of the world, as well as a variety of challenging behaviours, as affected children have rarely ever experienced genuine unconditional love and care.

In tackling the trauma symptoms described above, Harbour Point Care children’s homes provide a safe, positive, stable, encouraging and enabling therapeutic environment, where children can learn to regain their self-confidence, sense of purpose and value.

Staff are equipped with training in therapeutic care and supported through the process of understanding what characterises the child’s behaviour, so that they can respond in an appropriate, informed and reflective manner to meet the child’s psychological, emotional and behavioural needs, as they evolve through their individual therapeutic and developmental process. As each child has an individualised plan of care based on their specific backgrounds, trauma and life experiences prior to coming into our care as well as ongoing observations in the home, this plan is carefully followed, regularly reviewed and adjusted to guide continuity of the intervention as the child progresses through their care journey.

Ongoing Learning

life-skills

At various stages, our young people are taught life skills such as developing and building positive lasting relationships, self-confidence, self-awareness and social intelligence, general hygiene and healthy living, staying safe and well, proper time management, managing their finances, cooking, shopping, and housekeeping amongst other things.

In the area of learning, we support our young people in accessing academic and vocational resources; whilst also encouraging learning through play. Where our young people show interest in working and building their own careers, we help them access relevant training programmes to develop the confidence and skills required for employment in later life.
